Delcinea Lutes
Musician, Teacher, Coach
Mezzo-soprano, Delcinea Lutes grew up in Portland, Oregon, immersed in music, dance, and theatre. She received her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Connecticut, while pursuing additional pedagogical training with the Voice Foundation and the Northwest Institute of Voice. Delci began a career as an active soloist and choral singer in New England, singing with Connecticut Lyric Opera, Berkshire Opera Company, UConn Opera Theater, Bel Canto Northwest, Christ Church Cathedral, and others. Favorite roles include: The Gondoliers (Tessa), Hansel und Gretel (Hansel), Die Fledermaus (Orlofsky), L’italiana in Algeri (Isabella), Wizard of Oz (Glinda), The Sound of Music (Liesl and Elsa Schraeder). After a move to New York City and a brief stint working in finance, Delci launched a new chapter in Arts Administration, working as Director of Business and Artistic Operations for world-renowned soprano, Renée Fleming. The unique opportunity allowed her to utilize her musical knowledge and newly acquired business sense while liaising with many of the world’s top conductors, directors and musicians.
Two kids later, Delci and her husband, tenor Matthew Plenk, found themselves relocating to Denver. Since that time, she has performed consistently as a soloist and section leader with many choral organizations in the Denver metro area, including Wellshire Presbyterian, Temple Emanuel, Saint John’s Cathedral, the Archdiocesan Schola, and the Colorado Korean Chorus. She was a featured vocalist on Rocky Mountain PBS’s Carols at the Cathedral. Most recently Delci has returned to her first love, musical theater, performing Sister Berthe in the Sound of Music with Parker Arts and Sasquatch Productions, Godspell with Ovation West in Denver and Evergreen, and Hansel with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. She is current faculty at the Lamont Summer Academy and maintains a private studio teaching voice and piano to students of all ages. She loves working with kids and providing a foundation steeped in theory and ear training. Additionally, she finds time for work as a costumer – most recently designing costumes for Lamont Opera Theatre’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
